Johann Christian Bach is noted for his professional association with Karl Friedrich Abel, a renowned viola da gamba player and composer. According to the Biographical Dictionary of Musicians (1886), Bach and Abel gave concerts together in London from 1762 to 1782. The Biographical Dictionary of Musicians (1900) further records their intimacy, noting that Abel, a pupil of J. S. Bach, was appointed chamber musician to Queen Charlotte in 1765. Bach also brought the cantatrice Maria Caravoglio to London around 1778 to sing at his concerts, as mentioned in the Biographie universelle des musiciens (1837).
