From the period sources
Amédée Gastoué was recognized as a French contributor to The Musical Quarterly, a significant periodical established in New York City in 1915, which aimed for the highest quality and cosmopolitan scope, according to Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians: American Supplement (1920). His work was included among other French and Italian writers, even as the outbreak of the World War somewhat interfered with the original plan to draw freely from foreign authors. Beyond his contributions to this journal, Gastoué was also noted for his scholarship in specific areas of music history. The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians (1924) lists him among the authors of works on Byzantine Music, with a publication in 1907, and on Gregorian Music, with a work from 1905, placing him alongside other prominent scholars in these specialized fields.
