From the period sources
Henri Gobbi, born in Pesth in 1842, studied under both R. Volkmann and the renowned Franz Liszt, according to the Dictionary of Music (1896, 1908). He established himself in his native city as a teacher of music and a musical critic. His compositions include various piano works noted for their “national Hungarian colouring,” as well as male choruses. A significant event in his career was the production of a festival cantata in Pesth to mark Liszt’s fiftieth anniversary of public performance, as recorded in the Dictionary of Music (1896, 1908). Later, by 1924, a “Gobbi” was among the directors of the older Conservatory in Pest, succeeding E. Bartay, as noted in The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians.
