The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians (1924) records that a “Kunc” was among the distinguished recipients of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1902. This prestigious award, instituted by Napoleon in 1803, is granted annually by the French government through the Académie des Beaux-Arts, entitling the holder to study for three years under the Académie de France in Rome. The same 1924 encyclopedia also notes that a “Kunc” served as a director of the École de Musique in Toulouse, an institution established in 1840 and affiliated with the Paris Conservatory.
