From the period sources

Annibale Padovano, a contrapuntist of the 16th century, was born in Padua, hence his appellation “Patavinus” or “Padovano,” as noted by the Dictionary of Music (1896). He began his notable career in Venice, becoming organist of the second organ at St. Mark’s in 1552. According to A History of Pianoforte-Playing and Pianoforte-Literature (1897), Padovano and his colleague Claudio Merulo “frequently performed simultaneously or in alternation upon the two organs at solemn celebrations.” Merulo later succeeded Padovano as first organist at St. Mark’s in 1566, a post Padovano had held after Andreas Gabrieli succeeded him at the second organ in 1556, as the Dictionary of Music (1896) records.

After his time in Venice, Padovano moved to the grand-ducal court at Gratz (Styria) from 1566, according to The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians (1924), which also provides his birth and death years as 1527-1575, contrasting with the Dictionary of Music (1896) which stated these years were unknown. His preserved compositions include books of motets for five and six voices (1567), madrigals for five voices (1583), and motets for four voices (1592), alongside two masses and other madrigals found in collections from 1566 and 1575. Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1904) further lists a Kyrie and Gloria from his Mass “Conditor Alme Syderum” and a madrigal, “Qual è maggior la fiamma,” among his works.
