From the period sources

Dr. G. Saunders, whose full name is given as Gordon Saunders, was a teacher of harmony and counterpoint at Trinity College, London. According to Grove’s Dictionary (1904), he provided early musical instruction to Granville Bantock, who would later become a notable composer. Bantock received “a few lessons” from Dr. Saunders before entering the Royal Academy of Music in 1889, where he continued his studies under Mr. F. Corder. This brief period with Dr. Saunders preceded Bantock’s winning of the Macfarren Scholarship and his subsequent introduction to the musical world.
