From the period sources

Carl Venth, born in Cologne in 1860, was a notable Rhenish violinist and conductor, receiving his training at the Cologne and Brussels Conservatories (The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians, 1924). He was, in fact, a pupil of Wieniawski at Brussels, and also studied with Hiller, Japha, Jensen, and Klauwell at Cologne, graduating in 1877 (Grove’s American Supplement, 1920). Venth made his debut as a violinist with the Utrecht Symphony Orchestra in 1878, subsequently serving as concertmaster for the Flemish Opera in Brussels and the Opéra-Comique in Paris (The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians, 1924). In 1880, he moved to America, becoming concertmaster at the Metropolitan Opera House from 1884 (Grove’s American Supplement, 1920). He founded a music school in Brooklyn in 1888, which became known as the Venth College of Music, and also conducted the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra and choral societies (Dictionary of Music, 1908; Grove’s American Supplement, 1920; The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians, 1924). Later, Venth moved to Texas in 1908, where he held positions such as head of the violin department at Kidd-Key College, conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and dean of fine arts at the Texas Woman’s College in Fort Worth (Grove’s American Supplement, 1920; The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians, 1924). His compositions include the comic opera Fair Betty, several cantatas such as The Resurrection and The Quest of Beauty, a piano suite titled Frithjof and Ingeborg, and numerous pieces for violin and piano, as well as many songs (The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians, 1924).
