From the period sources
According to A Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1880), Charles Wachtmann was a composer whose “more-or-less-known productions” earned him a mention in a list of artists. The dictionary’s compilers noted their “earnest endeavour to do justice to the names of all artists of importance,” but acknowledged the vast activity of composers and publishers, which made it possible for some to be omitted or receive only brief notice. Wachtmann was among those for whom the dictionary was “unable to give more extended notice,” yet still deemed worthy of inclusion.
